Energy City Qatar, the Middle East’s first integrated business hub dedicated to the hydrocarbon industry, has grabbed a slew of awards in 2010 including the ‘Best Emerging Energy Hub 2010 – Middle East’ by London’s New Economy Magazine.

Energy City’s CEO, Eng. Hesham Al Emadi, recently received the award at the London Stock Exchange and was confident that this award will further drive the efforts of ECQ’s management and employees to achieve future goals. The New Economy is a leading international journal focused on all aspects of sustainability within banking, finance, energy and technology.

The international award adds to Energy City’s recent string of recognitions. These include the Qatar Today Green Awards, which recognised ECQ’s leadership role in the development of a green city, and its significant contribution to environment activities in the country. ECQ headquarters was lauded in the Roof & Green Building Award category for its environmental friendly design that improves sustainability and occupants’ wellbeing. Eng. Al Emadi was also honoured in the Environmental Leadership Award category because of his significant contribution to environmental improvement activities in Qatar.

On receiving the awards, Eng. Al Emadi said, “ECQ’s vision is to create the Middle East’s first energy business centre catering to the energy industry’s commercial, technical and human resources needs. We offer distinctive expertise and services via a hub that serves the needs of members of the global energy chain. We are exceptionally proud to be awarded as the Best Emerging Energy Hub 2010 by the New Economy Magazine and to grab the other awards from Qatar Today’s Green Awards. This indicates that we are well on the way towards fulfilling our vision.”

“Qatar’s energy sector is developing on a large scale, and thus we are ambitious to strengthen ECQ’s position as a world centre for companies working in the energy sector, and ensure that all their requirements to operate are found in this city,” added Eng. Al Emadi. “ECQ will play a key role in the growth of Qatar’s economy and will be among the many reasons for Qatar to climb up the world rankings in the energy sector and other sectors as well.”
